Dallas—The International Surface Event (TISE) dates have shifted to a new day format for 2018. Next year’s event will run Tuesday through Thursday (Jan. 30-Feb. 1), with the education program occurring Monday through Thursday (Jan. 29-Feb. 1). The exposition will feature the latest industry products, materials, equipment and services, including a wide variety of hardwood and laminate flooring, carpet, tools and equipment, natural stone and machinery, all types of tile and much more.
TISE is the largest North American event serving the floor covering, stone and tile industries. Comprising three world-class tradeshows Surfaces | StonExpo/Marmomac | TileExpo, TISE features four days of the newest products, hands-on demos, inspiring trends, key manufacturers, industry suppliers, along with unmatched education and networking. In five short years, the Best of Surfaces awards have become the benchmark of product and program success at The International Surface Event, the floor covering industry’s most important trade show. As such, FCNews is once again seeking a panel of retailers to judge the competition. If you are a flooring dealer—past or present—who has an understanding of what constitutes excellence in the Best of Surfaces’ four categories—style and design, innovation, technology and sustainability—we want to hear from you. (There are also two awards for best booths.)
Some criteria: First, you have to attend Surfaces. Second, you must be willing to evaluate some of the submissions in the weeks leading up to the show. Third, you must be willing to share your thoughts with other members of the panel. After we decide the category for which you will be judging, you and your peers will be given some criteria on what to look for. You will then receive information on each of the entries. In some cases, it will be a description of the entry. The respective panels will then come up with their five finalists, which they will view on site on day one at Surfaces. By the end of the show’s first day, they will have informed FCNews of their choice.

Dalton, Ga.—World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) has expanded the format of its Gold Standard Award, which recognizes flooring retailers for outstanding achievement. Beginning in 2017, the award will have two categories, over $10 million and under $10 million, to better accommodate retailers of all sizes.
For both categories, retailers are judged based on: knowledge, customer service, quality of store image and code of conduct. In addition, companies must also be members of the WFCA, have been in business for at least 3 years and have favorable Better Business Bureau reports.
The first place winners from both categories will win the choice of two-day CFI on-site custom class in carpet seaming or sales training or a one-year WFCA University tuition for online training. Second and third place winners from both categories will receive six-month WFCA University tuition and three-month WFCA University tuition, respectively.
To enter, applicants must complete the submission form and present multimedia marketing materials and other documents. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 15, 2016. Companies interested in entering or nominating an entrant can visit wfca-pro.org for more details.

To honor the TISE exhibitors’ contributions to the floorcovering industry, TISE, along with the awards program sponsors, host the “Best Of” awards program designed to celebrate industry successes.
The “Best Of” Event Awards is an annual awards program for exhibiting companies whose product, program, service, business practice and/or booth design are considered to be “Best Of” in their class. Awards are segmented into six categories: Best Booth under 1200 square feet, Best Booth above 1200 square feet, Innovation, Style & Design, Sustainability and Technology.
The “Best Of” Product Awards provide attendees the opportunity to browse the newest and most innovative industry products before the event and gain additional information from the manufacturer while on the show floor. Prior to the show, exhibitors have the opportunity to submit their products into the awards program. Entered products are then featured in the TISE Product & Trends Lookbook and voted on by the industry before the event.

Dallas–The International Surface Event (TISE) has issued a call for presentation, demonstration and session proposals to all educators, consultants and specialists for the educational program. Taking place Jan.17-20 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, the Ignite education program will address issues and deliver topics that go beyond the edge to inspire, motivate and provide knowledge and possibilities to the floor covering, stone and tile industries, TISE announced.
TISE is seeking qualified speakers and skilled demonstrators who enjoy connecting with others to further the expertise and knowledge within their field. Sessions are 90 minutes and demonstrations are 30 minutes in length, and should contain timely, practical information that can be immediately implemented in the workplace. The program is designed to help attendees increase their bottom line and expand their technical knowledge while exploring the latest trends.
“This year’s Ignite program was incredible, exceeding expectations and raising the bar on the level of information attendees received through the program. Our goal is to remain the unparalleled resource for real-world education for industry professionals ready to expand their knowledge and skills,” said Jennifer Hughes, education manager.
Topic submissions should focus on applications-oriented, real world, problem-solving topics and be free of promotional materials to sell a product or service.
