West Bloomfield, Mich.—FCICA, the Flooring Contractors Association, and NAFCT, the National Academy of Floor Covering Training, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations.
In this understanding, the two organizations will cooperate and coordinate efforts between them. This includes ensuring that members of each group are aware of the mission and activities of each other; exchanging website links; NAFCT will encourage qualified FCICA members as instructors for NAFCT schools and courses; NAFCT will recommend FCICA education sessions and webinars as continuing education and NAFCT will explore sessions in conjunction to FCICA’s convention.
“FCICA is excited to be partnering with the NAFCT,” said Kim Oderkirk, executive vice president. “Through sharing resources, we will increase the availability of trainings and better the education of flooring professionals.”
Paul Pleshek, president of NAFCT, said, “this partnership will enhance the training available for floor covering professionals and those interested in joining the field. NAFCT looks forward to participating in educational events with FCICA and contributing to FCICA committees.”
West Bloomfield, Mich.—The Flooring Contractors Association (FCICA) has named Amy Johnston of Flooring Services in Livonia, Mich., the first Certified Installation Manager (CIM) to receive her designation from the CIM Program. Johnston completed all of the learning modules and assessments in the program to become the first CIM.
The CIM program is an online certification program specifically developed for and available to anyone who wants to obtain the knowledge necessary to become a CIM and learn the important skills required of that position, regardless of his or her affiliations.

Registrants will learn the science behind the various types and chemistries of adhesives used in the floor covering industry today. This session will provide specific information as to the nature of these adhesive types, their uses and limitations. Attendees will also gain greater knowledge of how adhesives work, the environmental aspects that will affect bond performance and why there are so many different types of adhesives available, including how they interface with flooring types.

This session will focus on methods for impact sound insulation in flooring systems by providing an overview of available products and an explanation of the advantages of recycled rubber sound insulation including its positive environmental attributes and impact on LEED and Floorscore accreditation. The webinar will include a comparison of the characteristics of various sound insulation systems based on their content and performance, the environmental benefits of recycling rubber to produce high-performance sound insulation, the proper specifications of recycled rubber sound insulation and discussion of how recycled rubber sound insulation can contribute to obtaining LEED credits.

West Bloomfield, Mich.—The Flooring Contractors Association, FCICA, announced all attendees at the mid year meeting will now qualify for Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) continuing education credits upon completion of the Education Sessions of Friday, Oct. 7.
