Ceramic update: Consumer confidence affecting tile growth, prosperity

When it comes to business conditions, many are citing consumer confidence, or lack thereof, as a reason why things aren’t what they used to be. Along with the housing market, unemployment and energy costs—which all play a role in spending— there seems to be a waiting game on the part of consumers.

At least the commercial market is showing signs of life. Many point to the category’s inherent characteristics, green attributes and advancements in both fashion trends and state-of-the-art technology as reasons for optimism. Cevisama 2011: Tile turns to art, fashion, science for inspiration

VALENCIA, SPAIN—“Come and see the future” was the slogan of the world’s second largest fair for all things tile, commencing for the 29th edition here, from Feb. 8 to 11. With 776 exhibitors from 36 countries showing, Cevisama showcased the newest innovations in tile for 2011. According to Pepe Castellano, vice chairman of the Spanish Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER), it is the international fair that acts as a showroom for all its products.
