NSF develops new product category rule

Provides science-based methods to verify environmental flooring claims 

Ann Arbor, Mich.—Following a collaboration with multiple flooring trade associations, NSF International has developed a Product Category Rule (PCR) for the industry. This PCR, noted Tom Bruursema, general manager of NSF’s Sustainability division, provides both a science-based and internationally recognized method for reporting the environmental impact of resilient, carpet, laminate, tile and wood flooring products. New NSF International product category rule reports and compares environmental attributes

Ann Arbor, Mich.— NSF International, an independent global organization that writes standards, tests and certifies products for the commercial flooring, construction, food, water and consumer goods industries, collaborated with multiple flooring trade associations to develop a Product Category Rule (PCR) for the flooring industry. NSF rolls out two new programs to reduce greenwashing

Ann Arbor, Mich.—NSF International has two new environmental programs to meet the growing demand for science-based support to verify environmental product claims. NSF can now provide product category rule (PCR) development and environmental product declaration (EPD) verification across multiple product groups and industries. Adopted by European countries and growing in recognition in the U.S., PCRs and EPDs provide an international standard of communication to compare and report a product’s environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle.
