WFCA, NAFCD team up on training initiative

Wfcalogo_2015Dalton—The World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) and the North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors (NAFCD) have formed a partnership focused on increasing participation in WFCA training offerings by leveraging NAFCD members’ local relationships with retailers.

The first initiative planned by the two organizations—announced by Scott Humphrey, CEO of WFCA, and Kevin Gammonley, NAFCD executive vice president—aims to significantly increase awareness of WFCA research and training resources within the flooring retailer community. “This joint program will focus on NAFCD distributors promoting the 2016 WFCA Sales Training Camps to their retailer customers,” Humphrey said. “By tapping into the deep relationships that distributors have with retailers in their regional markets, we expect to enhance growth in retail sales nationwide, providing benefit for the industry at every level.”

The new partnership is designed to expand its focus over time. WFCA and NAFCD plan to facilitate and streamline industry communications through both associations, expand support for industry advocacy issues and secure potential new members through their respective member bases. Noting the WFCA’s evolution into a retailer-focused association, Humphrey explained he and Gammonley realized the two associations had much to gain through collaboration and the sharing of resources. “Together we will be able to capitalize on each other’s offerings and streamline professional training, industry driven research, advocacy programs and overall communications affecting members of both groups,” Humphrey stated.

Torrey Jaeckle, NAFCD president, highlighted the parallel histories and missions of his organization and WFCA. “Just as WFCA was founded to help advance the floor covering industry—shaping public and industry policy, promoting professional development through certification and providing its retailer members the business tools and resources to increase profitability—NAFCD is dedicated to the success of distributors,” he said. “The distributor’s needs are similar to those of the retailer, and the distributor’s welfare is dependent on the success of the retailer.”

Jaeckle agreed both WFCA and NAFCD have much to gain through their enhanced partnership. “We are all aware that our industry is changing and evolving and we need to do the same,” he added. “Through our collaboration with the WFCA we can build on the solid foundations of both organizations and ensure we are delivering on the needs of all of the players at the core of our industry.”

NAFCD, NBMDA partner again for 2016 annual convention

Screen Shot 2016-05-10 at 11.33.15 AMChicago—The North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors (NAFCD) and the North American Building Material Distribution Association (NBMDA) have extended their partnership in 2016. The highly anticipated NAFCD + NBMDA annual convention will take place Nov. 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency here.

Bringing together more than 700 distribution professionals representing the leading distributors in the U.S. and Canada, the tabletop networking forum allows distributors and manufacturers to connect face-to-face and conduct meaningful business planning. Semi-private tabletop booths provide an ideal forum for senior executives and key decision makers to discuss distribution plans and strategies for the future while also reviewing past performance. Meetings are coordinated by appointment to ensure a highly focused and productive environment.

In addition to strengthening partnerships, the event fosters networking and knowledge sharing between attendees. New in 2016, the annual convention will host panel discussions for industry experts to share best practices and their experiences on hot topics such as social media. Attendees will be able to interact and continue to build relationships in social activities taking place throughout the convention.

The three days of the NAFCD + NBMDA annual convention will also be filled with value learning through five education sessions and the 2016 Distribution Management University (DMU). Rated highly year-over-year, education sessions allow attendees to take away relevant and practical business and sales knowledge.

“The joint event for NAFCD and NBMDA has proven to be successful based on the growth we see each year,” said Kevin Gammonley, NAFCD and NBMDA executive director. “We are confident 2016 will be no different. The annual convention continues to bring together top distributors and manufacturers to establish new relationships, enhance their business strategy, and access industry education, information and trends.”

Learn more about the event at www.distributorconvention.org. Attendee registration will open in July.

Industry trade associations emphasize working together

The Floor Covering Industry Issues Council (FCIIC) held its spring meeting in Chicago on April 16, 2013.  An important focus of the meeting was an emphasis among the participating flooring trade associations on developing even closer ties and finding more ways to work together to benefit their members and the flooring industry as a whole.

“The last few years have been challenging ones for the flooring industry and the trade associations which represent its various segments,” said National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) chairman John Lessick. “The leaders of the associations at the FCIIC table understand that the sum of the parts is greater than the whole and that, by continuing to work together, we can increase the value we provide to members, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our organizations and help to strengthen the entire flooring industry.” Continue reading Industry trade associations emphasize working together
