Couristan appoints Michael J. Riley as new president

Fort Lee, N.J.—Couristan’s George G. Couri, chairman, and Ronald J. Couri, CEO, have appointed Michael J. Riley as the company’s new president. Riley was most recently president of Oriental Weavers USA.

“In order to accelerate the transformation of Couristan to respond to the changes in the marketplace for the coming decades, Mike is the perfect fit to join my brother Ron and me in leading those efforts,” said George Couri. “With his expertise across Couristan’s residential and hospitality divisions, he will be an asset to the company.”

As president, Riley will be overseeing the residential and hospitality sales teams. Under Riley’s leadership, Steve Codella will be heading sales of the broadloom and roll runner divisions, and Mark Ferullo will be in charge of area rug sales. Niall Coree will continue to oversee the sales and operations of the contract/hospitality division, reporting to Riley as well. The new president will be based in the company’s Fort Lee, N.J. global headquarters.

Riley started with Oriental Weavers USA in 1995 and became president in 2003 in addition to being CEO of their hospitality division for the past 7 years. “I made the decision to join Couristan based on an alignment of visions with George and Ron as to the future of the industry as well as their decision and commitment to respond to the rapidly changing distribution landscape,” Riley said. “It is essential for companies to be nimble in this rapidly changing climate. Together with the talented Couristan team and the full support of the ownership, I am committed to achieving dramatic growth for Couristan in the US markets.”

Nebraska Furniture Mart names new president, COO

The transition is part of long-term succession planning for Nebraska Furniture Mart’s future. Current president and COO Ron Blumkin will still be active in the business as Chairman, and Irv Blumkin will remain with Nebraska Furniture Mart as CEO.

“Tony is a focused, dedicated and creative leader,” Ron Blumkin stated, “who will be an exceptional leader for Nebraska Furniture Mart’s future.” In his new role, Boldt will continue the customer-focused vision and mission for Nebraska Furniture Mart.

“I am extremely fortunate to have the skilled and dedicated team at Nebraska Furniture Mart to deliver exceptional products, value and service to our customers,” Boldt said of his new role. “I look forward to leading this dedicated team and continuing on with Nebraska Furniture Mart’s strong commitment to our customers and communities we serve.”

Boldt has had significant experience within Nebraska Furniture Mart starting at Homemakers Furniture, a subsidiary of Nebraska Furniture Mart in Des Moines, and in 2002, taking a leadership role directly for Nebraska Furniture Mart in the warehouse in Clive, Iowa. Boldt rose to store manager of the Clive, IA Nebraska Furniture Mart operation before transitioning in 2011 to Omaha as the appliance and electronics general sales manager. In December of 2012 he was promoted to his current position as store director of the Kansas City Nebraska Furniture Mart store where he has successfully led and managed all aspects of store operations.

As Chairman, Ron Blumkin will continue to oversee Nebraska Furniture Mart’s subsidiaries including Homemakers Furniture in Des Moines, Iowa, Floors Inc. in Omaha, Neb., and Grandscape in The Colony, Texas. In addition, he will be an ambassador for Nebraska Furniture Mart inside and outside the company.

Wanke Cascade hires Rob Tarver as new president

robPortland, Ore.—Wanke Cascade, an Oregon based distributor, has hired Rob Tarver as its new president. Tarver joins the company with 20 years of flooring experience where he served a variety of executive roles in sales, marketing and product development. Most recently, Tarver was the vice president of sales for Wellmade Performance Flooring and spent many years prior working with Wilsonart International.

Mark Buckwold, current president of Wanke Cascade, is assuming a position in the head office of Buckwold Western.
