New amendments to Maryland's Workplace Fraud Act go into effect

Fredericksburg, Va.—The new amendments to the Workplace Fraud Act of 2009 went into effect in Maryland on July 1. In preparation for the changes in the law, the Maryland Northern Virginia Floor Covering Association (MDNVAFCA) held a number of meetings to keep members informed and help them determine what they need to do in order to ensure that the subcontractors they utilize are properly classified as independent contractors. Workplace fraud hearing

Floor Covering News received a letter from the Maryland and Northern Virginia Floor Covering Association requesting flooring dealers to attend a hearing between the committee, Economic Matters, headed by Delegate Kelly Schultz, and the DLLR (Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation) in regard to the Work Place Fraud Act. A letter from MDNVAFCA president

Dear Members, Friends and Supporters of MDNVAFCA ,

It has recently come to our attention that several of our members have been audited by the State of Maryland under the Workplace Fraud Act of 2009.  We believe the enforcement of this law can be severely detrimental to our members, specifically the floor covering industry in general, especially in these tough economic times.  This not only affects our members physically located in Maryland but any member doing business in Maryland.
