Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition opens

Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 5.39.21 PMNew York—Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Commission are seeking entries for the 2016 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition. For the past 22 years, the competition has served as a unique platform to showcase the work of North American architects and designers who utilize the high technical and aesthetic qualities of Italian tile. Each year an international jury of design experts selects three winning projects as well as honorable mentions in the residential, institutional, and commercial/hospitality sectors. Projects displaying the highest level of functionality, creativity, sustainability and aesthetic appeal will be rewarded with valued prizes as well as exposure in the industry.

To qualify for the competition, projects must be designed by North American-based architects and designers, completed in the past five years and feature a significant portion of Italian ceramic or porcelain tile.

Winners will be notified in March and officially announced at the Ceramics of Italy International Press Conference at Coverings, taking place in Chicago April 18-21.

In addition to travel and show accommodations, each category winner will receive a cash prize of $4,000 plus a five-day trip to Bologna, Italy next fall to attend Cersaie, the world’s largest exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings.

The online application can be found at tilecompetition.com. There is no fee to enter and multiple submissions are accepted. Deadline is Jan. 15.

Ceramics of Italy announces 2015 Tile Competition winners

Orlando—Now in its 22nd year, the Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition has announced seven outstanding projects that wholly represent the competition’s goal of honoring commendable use of Italian tile in North American architecture and design. Sponsored by Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Commission, the competition attracted high quality submissions in each of the three categories: Residential, Commercial and Institutional. An international jury of design industry experts reviewed and evaluated the projects, ultimately selecting three winners and four honorable mentions.

The finalists were officially announced at Coverings in Orlando on April 15 during the Ceramics of Italy international press conference. Winners received a prize of $4,000 as well as a five-day trip to Bologna, Italy to attend Cersaie, the world’s largest exhibition of ceramic tile, being held Sept. 28-Oct. 2.

Ceramics of Italy wins booth award

CoI_ICFF Editor AwardNew York — At the 26th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Ceramics of Italy was awarded an ICFF Editors Award in the Multiple Production category for its display of Italian ceramics.

Sponsored by Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Promotion Agency, with support from the Italian Trade Commission, the Ceramics of Italy booth featured mini exhibits from 23 of Italy’s leading ceramic producers.

Occupying two booths and over 4,000 square feet of space, the Ceramics of Italy pavilion showcased an array of product including three-dimensional mosaics, hand painted ceramics, pop-art inspired tiles, easy installation systems and hi-tech porcelains reproducing the look of gemstones, marble, rustic wood and rough-hewn cement.

Ceramics of Italy to hold press conferences at Coverings

On April 29 at 3 p.m., Ceramics of Italy will hold a joint press conference with CTDA to announce a progressive new initiative on Good Phytosanitary Practices. Then on April 30 at 4 p.m., representatives from the Italian ceramics industry will discuss the state of the industry and reveal the winners of the 2014 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition during the annual International Press Conference.

During the April 29 press conference, in room S224, representatives from both associations will give a short presentation on the elements of the groundbreaking program and how it will affect shipping procedures for participating manufacturers.

During the April 30 press conference, in room S224, leading figures in the Italian ceramics industry will present information on the state of the industry and current promotional plans as well as an overview of design trends and recent technical achievements.

The highly anticipated announcement of the winners of the 2014 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition will also be made at this time. Representatives from the winning architecture and design firms including DI Group, Corgan Associates and MGA Partners will present their residential, commercial and institutional projects and receive a check for $4,000 and an award plaque to commemorate their achievement. The prize package also includes a free trip to Bologna, Italy, to attend Cersaie Sept. 22-26. The winning firms’ partners in excellence—the distributors and contractors involved in each project—will also receive a check recognizing their achievement.

Ceramics of Italy to take part in technical symposium

Screen Shot 2014-03-20 at 10.06.53 AMCambridge, Mass. — Ceramics of Italy will participate in a technical symposium on architectural ceramics in Boston March 22-23. The symposium connects the Italian tile industry with leading architects, engineers, conservators and other professionals responsible for aspects of the built environment from the U.S. and Canada. Organized by Technology & Conservation, the MIT Department of Architecture’s Building and Technology Program and the Boston Society of Architects’ Historic Resources Committee, “Architectural Ceramics in the 21st Century: Design & Preservation of Contemporary & Historic Architecture” will explore the use, performance, maintenance and preservation of terra cotta, porcelain and other architectural ceramics during an intensive two-day conference held in the Wong Auditorium of MIT’s Cambridge campus.

Ceramics of Italy will participate in the conference in several ways including the sponsorship of two key speakers on the conference program. On March 22, Professor Giorgio Timellini, director of the Italian Tile Center in Bologna and Professor at the University of Bologna, Department of Applied Chemistry & Materials Science, will conduct a presentation about European ceramics research and fabrication developments for exterior cladding. On Sunday, March 23, Prof. Timellini will serve on a panel discussion on sustainability issues and recent advancements in the ceramics industry.

On March 23, Giorgio Valentini, president of Atlantic Link, will present an update on new types of porcelain and terra cotta tile suitable for structural and decorative exterior applications in new construction and restoration projects.

Ceramic Tiles of ItalyNine Projects in Three Categories Recognized in Honor of 20th Anniversary

This year, the Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition, an annual awards program sponsored by Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Commission, attracted the most competitive pool of projects in the contest’s history. The submissions from prominent North American architects and designers in the residential, institutional, and commercial categories were impressive both in their architectonic qualities and creative use of Italian ceramic tile. On the occasion of the competition’s 20th anniversary as well as the Anno della Cultura Italiana (“Year of Italian Culture”), the international jury decided to recognize more projects this year, honoring them with a special anniversary award. The Commercial category showed particular strength in the innovative and extensive use of tile, prompting the jury to select a grand prize winner as well as special mentions in Retail, Hospitality and Corporate categories. The winning projects speak to the A&D community’s commitment to using a material that is technically advanced, aesthetically pleasing, and manufactured with a focus on sustainability. Tile & stone show set to make Atlanta debut

Coverings 2013 is sure to be the most exciting tile and stone super show ever, noted show director Karin Fendrich of National Trade Productions (NTP), the management company for Coverings, as the biggest tile and stone market in the U.S. comes to Atlanta for the first time in its 20-plus year history.

Coverings is on track to have more than 900 exhibitors from over 50 countries when it opens at the Georgia World Congress Center on April 29, running through May 2. “There is no fee to visit the show,” she explained. “And unlike many other events, there is no charge to attend the nearly 70 educational sessions, either.
