Chattanooga, Tenn.—Armstrong Commercial Flooring has joined the North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) as its newest Regular Member.
NALFA offers three levels of membership: Regular Manufacturing Membership, Associate Membership and Testing House/Lab/Academic Membership. NALFA Regular Members are manufacturers, importers or marketers that offer laminate flooring for sale within North America. Other NALFA Regular Members include Columbia Flooring, Mannington Mills, Mohawk, Pergo, Quick-Step, Shaw Industries and Torlys.

Lancaster, Pa.—Armstrong Commercial Flooring has introduced Safety Zone Sheet to its current safety tile offering. This new slip-retardant sheet provides a through-pattern construction in a dense formulation for lasting safety underfoot, an easy-to-clean surface and durable wear and stain resistance in high-traffic conditions. The formulation also improves flexibility of the floor for ease of installation.

Lancaster, Pa.–Armstrong Commercial Flooring has received the 2015 Los Angeles Green Leadership Award for its innovative floor recycling program and waste reduction initiatives.

The innovative Armstrong Floor Recycling Program is the first program to recycle installed Armstrong Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT) flooring products as well as Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) and other vinyl flooring products. Under the program, vinyl flooring is recycled in a closed-loop, post-consumer stream with reclaimed material incorporated into new flooring products. In 2014, the Armstrong South Gate, Calif., facility recycled over 450 tons of reclaimed materials, including 50 tons from the state of California. In addition to this accomplishment, the Armstrong South Gate facility was able to eliminate all process waste from going to the landfill, making it a zero process waste facility.

The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors created the Green Leadership Awards Program as a partnership with local residents, community groups, businesses and non-profit agencies to protect the environment and the county’s natural resources. Awards are presented in five categories, including transportation, energy/water, sustainability and outreach/education in both the private and public sectors. Armstrong was honored with the business sector award, recognized as a private company moving its business practices toward a sustainable enterprise.
Lancaster, Pa.—A new white paper, “Daylighting and Flooring: Don’t Overlook the Issue of Reflectivity,” issued by Armstrong Commercial Flooring, provides insight on leveraging the reflectivity of flooring for architects and administrators who are seeking opportunities to reduce energy consumption in commercial structures. Daylighting is increasingly becoming a green building design strategy and LEED v4 now recognizes the benefits of high light reflective flooring in Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ).
Research suggests that boosting the reflectance values of flooring will allow more light from either artificial or natural sources to bounce off the floor and enable the available light to illuminate the space more efficiently.
