Export, Pa.—The Korlok Select and Korlok Reserve rigid core ranges by Karndean Designflooring have received a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that details the ranges’ environmental performance.

“Consumers and specifiers are savvier than ever when it comes to choosing safe products with low environmental impact for their home and commercial projects,” said Steve Huth, technical supervisor – claims & environmental, Karndean Designflooring. “EPDs provide peace of mind that our Korlok products can be specified without the worry of negative health or environmental impacts.”

The EPD details Korlok’s environmental performance based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a scientific process that examines the environmental impacts associated with all stages of a product’s life from cradle to grave, including: raw material extraction through processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair/maintenance, to end of life. EPDs are prepared in accordance with international standards.

“We’ve seen more consumers and specifiers requesting EPDs because they are concerned about how products could affect their family or the end user’s everyday life,” said Huth. “For example, will it affect their child’s allergies or asthma? Can it harbor moisture, mold or bacteria? Does the product require heavy chemicals for cleaning?”

The full EPD is available on the SCS Global Services, MindfulMaterials and Karndean Designflooring websites.
