City of Industry, Calif. — Bentley Prince Street, an industry leader in commercial carpet design, quality and sustainability, is honored to receive its third Evergreen Award from the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Integrated Workplace Acquisition Center (IWAC) since 2001. Every year the GSA IWAC invites environmentally conscientious business partners to participate in its Evergreen Award program, which was developed to recognize efforts in recycling, affirmative procurement and waste reduction that can set an example for other IWAC business partners to follow. The Evergreen Award itself “closes the recycling loop” in that it is made from recycled glass.

Forty businesses were considered for the 2011 Evergreen Award. The award was presented to one business in each of the following categories: furniture, furnishings and floor coverings, technologies and electronics, sports and recreation and small business. Five of the categories considered in evaluating nominations are: Waste Prevention, Recycling, Affirmative Procurement, Environmental Preferability and Model Facility.  Bentley Prince Street has been awarded the Evergreen Award three times since 2001. Read the GSA’s official press release.

“This is such an incredible honor and one I am proud to share with all our associates,” says Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. “This award says to our customers and to the world that we truly care about the impact our actions have on the environment and we are doing everything in our power to protect the planet.”

Bentley Prince Street received the 2011 Evergreen Award for its industry leading efforts in sustainability and Mission Zero goal of eliminating any negative impact the company has on the environment by the year 2020.  Additionally, Bentley Prince Street having been selected by the Department of Energy to pilot the ISO 50001 Energy certification in California and making its 2012 goal to produce 100% Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for all products manufactured in its LEED for Existing Buildings Silver certified facility played major factors in the GSA’s decision to honor them for a third time.

GSA’s Evergreen Award Program was developed to:

·      Support the federal government’s environmental initiatives

·      Assist GSA’s customers in identifying environmentally preferable products currently on schedule

·      Recognize the efforts of our business partners in:

  • Recycling
  • Affirmative Procurement
  • Waste Reduction

·      Set an example for other IWAC business partners to follow

“Being awarded this honor for a third time validates our strong environmental commitment,” says Holly DeBrodt, director of sustainability for Bentley Prince Street. “We are dedicated to responsibility in manufacturing and transparency in reporting because we all understand that sustainability is not just a marketing plan, it’s business as usual.”
