Calhoun, Ga.—Mohawk Industries will close its Chatsworth, Ga., BCF yarn plant in August and move the facility’s 156 workers to other sites in Northwest Georgia. The manufacturer recently made investments to support increased demand for products made with SmartStrand triexta and Continuum polyester fibers, and the displaced workers will move to factories where these fibers are being produced.
Many of the employees will likely move to the Murray, Whitfield and Gordon County facilities in Georgia. According to company officials, some workers may choose opportunities within Mohawk outside of yarn plants.
