HPS Schönox debuting product-system approach

HomeNewsHPS Schönox debuting product-system approach

Orlando, Fla.—HPS Schönox is introducing a product-system approach to address challenging subfloor issues common in healthcare facility renovation projects. Combinations of Schönox products can address diverse and challenging subfloor problems such as rough and uneven substrates, unsound wood subfloors, asbestos cutback, and significant moisture issues. Most importantly, Schönox can solve these subfloor issues with products that do not contain VOCs, have dust-reducing properties, contribute to LEED credits, and allow installers to renovate rather than demolish existing subfloors.

“In the healthcare sector we are repeatedly seeing that the true cost of a healthcare facility renovation is measured by the down time of that space,” said Karen Bellinger, HPS Schönox business development. “Our products significantly decrease the time that healthcare spaces are not in use due to renovation.” Schönox products within the priming, moisture mitigation, patching, floor leveling, and adhesive categories have been identified for use in tandem to accelerate healthcare projects.

A number of product-system solutions will be discussed at the Healthcare Design Conference. Schönox KH Fix primer dries quickly allowing floor leveling compounds to be applied in just 10 to 60 minutes. Substrates with moisture issues of up to 100% relative humidity are easily handled with Schönox mitigation systems. In the floor leveling area, ZM Rapid allows many types of floor coverings to be installed only 1-1/2 to two hours after application. Perhaps most significant, Schönox AP, the company’s synthetic gypsum self-leveling compound, can be poured over critical substrates that would have been demolished without AP’s unique product qualities.

“With good reason, environmental sensibilities are the highest in the healthcare industry,” commented Jennifer Thomas, architectural and design specialist. “Schönox products are increasingly being specified for healthcare projects given the company’s significant environmental credentials.” The Schönox product array includes solutions without VOCs and almost all Schönox products contribute to LEED credits. Schönox AP, APF, and AST are made from synthetic gypsum that is created from the by-product of the process used to purify power plant emissions. These leveling and patching products contain no fly ash, do not shrink, and dry to an outstanding 5400 to 5800 psi.

Special properties in Schönox AP (self leveling compound) and AST (smoothing and patching compound) dramatically reduce the amount of dust created when mixing and using these products inside of facilities that are in active use. “The research and development division at Schönox is continuously addressing ways to improve products,” said Russell Wright, HPS Schönox regional business manager, southeast. “The healthcare sector stands to benefit the most from the environmental and technology developments being debuted by Schönox.”
