LaGrange, Ga. – George Bandy Jr., LEED AP, vice president of sustainability for interface, has been voted chair-elect of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Board of Directors. It was just last year that Bandy was elected to a three-year term to the board, and his term in this new position begins January 1, 2013. The year following, he will succeed Allan Skodowski LEED AP O+M, Transwestern, in the role of board chair.

Bandy, who has been active in USGBC since the organization’s founding in 1993, has served in leadership capacities on both a national and local level. A LEED Accredited Professional, he is former chairman of the Georgia chapter and had roles on the National Social Equity Committee, the North Carolina Chapter Advisory Board and the Green Economy Board. As a member of Interface’s distinguished “Green Team” speakers bureau, Bandy is often tapped to address audiences nationwide about sustainability issues and practices.

Prior to joining Interface in 2000, Bandy was the sustainable development officer for the University of Texas-Houston. He is a graduate of Morehouse College, where he earned his B.A. in English with a minor in Environmental Business Management. He is the second individual from Interface to take a seat on the USGBC Board of Directors, preceded by Jim Hartzfeld, assistant vice president sustaining progress.
