Columbus Day: Are you hosting a sale?

HomeBlogColumbus Day: Are you hosting a sale?

Happy (almost) Columbus Day! For children across the U.S. the upcoming Monday holiday is a welcome “get out of school free” card, and that goes for a few lucky offices with grown-ups in it too.

Established as federal holiday in 1937, the celebration of patriotism has come to include a prominent American pastime: Shopping! A Google search of “2011 Columbus Day sales,” yields 82,700,000 results. Add “flooring” into the search bar and the number of results almost doubles to 148,000,000.

Carpet One in Maryland is one of the top results with a video on YouTube:

R&D Flooring also has a fun graphic that really pays tribute to Christopher Columbus’ homeland and gives the shopper incentive to shop all month.

How do you say, "Go shopping!" in Italian?

Aside from patriotism and a day to play hooky, Columbus Day is one of the few days where the both heads of the household are home at the same time without the predicated schedules of soccer practice, piano lessons, church and dinner with the in-laws that usually dominates Saturdays and Sundays.

Today’s consumer probably has enough jeans to last her and her family through 2025 and the freezer probably still has grillables from Labor Day weekend (though the fridge may not have enough beer.) What kind of promotions is your store offering to remind shoppers that it’s time to replace her neglected flooring and update her home before the season for hibernation hits?

We found these examples of eye-catching graphics across the interwebs pretty enticing!

Nice look from One on One Floor Covering:

"K-Pad" on Facebook

The Floor Trader never disappoints, especially with this call out for a promotional contest:

Someone really hates their floors.

Independent Carpet One tied a cool promotion to Disney/Pixar’s “Up” a few years back:

What kind of graphics and tactics are you using to grab attention for your Columbus Day sale? We’d love to hear from you!
