Creative Matters joins Label STEP

TORONTO—Creative Matters has become one of the first carpet design and manufacturing companies to support the Label Step initiative for a sustainable carpet industry in Nepal and to sign an accordant petition to the Nepali government. Creative Matters manufactures original hand-knotted rugs in Nepal.

“Creative Matters is delighted to join Label Step,” said company co-founder and director Carol Sebert. “We have followed their measures to improve the weavers’ working and living conditions over the past number of years and have been consistently impressed with their diligence, both on the ground and at the political level”

Under the newly established partnership, Creative Matters and Label STEP will collaborate closely on joint efforts to improve working and living conditions for weavers, as well as improving the ecological situation at production sites. “We particularly like Label Step’s focus on education for healthy living conditions for the weavers and their families as well as their work to improve the environmental standards of the manufacturing process,” added co-founder and Director, Donna Hastings. “Their understanding of the challenges of the weaving conditions in Nepal, along with respect for the weavers is in keeping with Creative Matters’ ethics.”

“It is no coincidence that this contemporary design company has been around for 23 years,“ said Reto Aschwanden, Label Step’s commercial director. “High quality rugs, great designs that always bear the company’s distinctive handwriting, an intelligent use of exclusive raw materials and traditional weaving techniques, as well as a passionate commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility – those are Creative Matters’ keys to enduring success and also what makes them a role model for the global industry.”
