Dear Members, Friends and Supporters of MDNVAFCA ,
It has recently come to our attention that several of our members have been audited by the State of Maryland under the Workplace Fraud Act of 2009. We believe the enforcement of this law can be severely detrimental to our members, specifically the floor covering industry in general, especially in these tough economic times. This not only affects our members physically located in Maryland but any member doing business in Maryland.
In light of this, we asked Donald F. Burke, Esq. of Semmes, Brown and Semmes located in Baltimore, Md., to address this issue and share his insight and expertise with our members. We have also asked long time Board Member, Charlie Vogel of Arcade Carpet One, to provide a sample letter you can personalize and send to your state senators and representatives.
I strongly urge you to contact your state senators and representatives to let them know how this law will impact our industry and our small business owners. The Board of Directors will continue to meet, discuss and brainstorm ideas to combat this issue. We would appreciate any input you would like to contribute, and the Association will continue to pass along any information we receive concerning this issue.
If your business is audited and you would like some advice or guidance from members who have experienced it before, please contact us at mdnvafa@msn.com or 877.896.3605.
Copies of the article and sample letter in a PDF format can be found at mdnvafca.org/MembersArea/Events/Seminars/Default.aspx.
If you would like a file format that can be formated and changed, please e-mail Michelle Goshorn at mdnvafa@msn.com.
Sincerely,
