PAPINEAUVILLE, QUEBEC, CANADA—From one sawmill and seven people, Lauzon is celebrating its 25th anniversary of operation this year. The mill now operates 11 facilities throughout Quebec with over 800 employees, and supporting a reputation for distinctive hardwood flooring are two proprietary distribution centers, a sawmill and four finishing plants, nearly 1,000,000 hectares of public forests—50% of which are FSC-certified— and 22,000 hectares of private forest. In the last 20 years, the mill has been ranked three times as one of Canada’s top 50 privately owned companies, and has won countless awards from both industry and government.
“From the very beginning, and because of the choices we’ve made along the way, our hardwood floors have been and still are the best and most environmentally-friendly flooring choice there is today,” said David Lauzon, founder and owner. “We’re the only company of our kind that converts all wood residue into recycled energy, and we’ve been doing this since 1995.”
The mill celebrated its quarter-centennial with a dinner at the Fairmont Chateau Montebello. Lauzon said the event was the company’s way of thanking its suppliers, customers and employees for the growth and continued support over the last 25 years.
